Why Every Executive Must Eat, Sleep and Sweat More

Why Every Executive Must Eat, Sleep and Sweat More

If your company or organization can’t function without your guidance and leadership then your personal health becomes as important as your bottom line. Technology has required us to remain so connected – we can’t shut down. Even vacations become an attempt at squeezing more work in, while taking us even further way from the original goal – rest and relaxation.

I’m just as guilty as the next. My iPhone sits on the nightstand. I eat lunch at my desk. And, my alarm clock rings shortly after what used to be “last call.”

In today’s fast-paced environment, it’s critical for successful professionals to schedule some “me time.” But this precious time improves concentration, work performance, and ultimately makes us remember why we work so hard.

  1. Sleep must be THE top priority. Studies show sleeping at least seven hours a night markedly improves brain function, lowers blood pressure, and replaces brain neurotransmitters—those “creative juices” so important to the top-functioning professional. And, we’ll also live and love longer. I want to be around to see not only my company, but my children grow. It starts with better sleep habits.
  2. Eat healthy. Only fuel your body with food that makes you feel healthy and strong. The brain actually functions better on more fatty acids than protein. Thus, eating healthy includes healthy oils and monounsaturated fats (nuts, olive oils). A healthy balanced diet actually improves thinking and creativity. Try never to make important business decisions on an empty stomach.
  3. Physical exercise is a must. If you’re like me and the task list is never-ending, it’s easy to push exercise off. However, this is the wrong way to prioritize your time. Exercise lowers blood pressure while increasing blood flow to the brain and other vital organs. Even just the recommended 30 minutes, three times per week as suggested by the AHA, dramatically increases neuronal flow and improves memory and concentration. Exercise improves both the brain and the body in general. I bought a laptop work station for my treadmill to aid in time management – it helps motivate me to get on the machine.

May your good health be your best corporate asset,
Alyssa

NEW COMMUNICATIONS FIRM LAUNCHES IN IOWA

Turnkey Corporate Event Management Division Leads Service Offerings

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA (August 6, 2014) – Connell Communications has officially launched operations, led by Iowa business veteran, Alyssa Connell. Positioned as a preeminent PR, marketing and social media consulting firm, the company feels it has a unique niche in an already saturated market: turnkey corporate event management.

The company offers six communications service lines: corporate event management, crisis communication, public relations, marketing, online/social media and business development/strategic planning.

The main division, coined Connell Event Management, offers global turnkey corporate event services, providing executive-level services for every stage of a corporate event. “I’ve worked on dozens of economic development projects across the nation and for many of the largest brands in the world. Through that experience, we learned what it takes to be successful,” said Alyssa Connell, CEO/Owner of Connell Communications. “We aim to take the pressure off the company, no matter the size of their project or event. That’s the driving force behind the division: flawless execution.”

As its first major project in business, Connell Communications recently managed the successful Grand Opening Celebration of the new $146 million biorational facility in Osage, Iowa, for Valent BioSciences Corporation.

“The Grand Opening of our new manufacturing facility in Osage, Iowa, was a high profile event for both internal and external audiences. From day one, the Connell Communications team was lockstep and synchronized with our project managers to ensure the flawless execution of this important event,” said Rick Melnick, Global Brand and Communications Manager of Valent BioSciences Corporation.

“From graphic design to event layout, facilities, event communications and the procurement of a seemingly endless list of detail items, Connell Communications provided the dedicated support we needed to achieve and exceed our goals.”

Another differentiating factor for the company, Connell Communications leads the industry with high-level pioneers in online and social media marketing, a service offering still often underused by companies and organizations. “We’re early adapters in online and social media. And our team has executed campaigns globally. We understand the Why and the How to manage your online presence,” said Connell. The company helps build online strategy and execute tactics that create the highest return on influence.

“Business owners want to speak directly to the expert about their challenges. They have needs that need to be met, often immediately,” said Connell. “We built a team of industry experts and preferred partners to serve our clients. We removed the layers so we can get down to solving problems.”

The company plans to announce another new venture in the coming weeks, this one dedicated solely to the aviation and aerospace industry.

About Connell Communications

Connell Communications is among the nation’s preeminent public relations, social media and marketing consulting firms. Our CEO, Alyssa Connell, started the firm after spending years in boardrooms and meetings, creating solutions to problems just like yours. We’ve figured out a few things along our journey about what you need in an integrated communications partner. And, we’re turnkey corporate event management specialists. You can expect a lot from us.

What’s the point of influence?

What’s the point of influence?

I knew I wanted the branding of Connell Communications centered on a compass rose. Spending years working in PR, one central theme among clients was resounding – they needed help finding direction. Really, don’t we all at times? Just when we think we’re headed True North, someone changes the map. It’s easy to lose our way. Especially in today’s business climate.

And, if that isn’t difficult enough, how do we get others to go down the path with us? Every person in business has asked this question at one time or another.  The answer lies in the successful execution of a well-organized communications strategy. But, does it work? Or, is it just creating more work and cost for the company?

There’s an exact moment when a customer makes a decision to purchase a product, join a team, try something new or even give you their hard-earned trust. That moment – that exact place in time – that’s the point of influence.

And if you can get there, it will work. You will achieve your goals. The investment in your communications budget will simply be just that…an investment.

No matter what your point of influence is – let us help you get there.
